Mike and Ashlee met at the gym and were both drawn together by their relaxed personalities. They hoped their day would reflect their personalities and all their family and friends would have a fun/relaxing time.

Mike and Ashlee had a 4:30pm ceremony at the Bowen Park Amphitheatre. If you haven’t been yet, it’s a couple years old now, but many people still don’t know about this great Nanaimo venue. I could go on about how Nanaimo is lacking in nice out door wedding venues, but I will leave it at that. Thanks goodness Bowen Park has made such a wonderful location available.

Since Mike and Ashlee were having a late afternoon ceremony they opted to do wedding party photos before the ceremony, but not until they had a first look. I am interested if anyone can guess where the first look was. My assistant Courtney and I tried to stay really far back, allowing things to be private and us to use long lenses to compress the background so it was out of focus to not draw attention to the busy street and multi-story complex. The nice little garden in between felt so quant and pretty.

The ceremony went perfectly – we even managed to avoid some raindrops that teased us. Since wedding party photos were completed downtown beforehand we were able to head straight to the Cavallotti Lodge reception after some family photos. The reception looked absolutely exceptional. Big thanks to the ladies at Bliss Gowns and Events for their outstanding decorating.

I hope you enjoy Mike and Ashlee’s photos. It was a pleasure to be part of their special day. I really enjoyed how relaxed and trusting they were with me. This way I was able to take them to a few spots I hadn’t used before.
