Parksville / Errington Country Style Wedding – Lon + Amanda

It seemed like I had just finished editing Lon and Amanda’s engagement photos and I was already packing up the car to shoot their lovely backyard wedding in Errington. I always love the vibe of a backyard wedding. Everyone is so relaxed and it really just becomes an evening filled with great visits and laughter. Lon and Amanda didn’t miss a detail with their wedding to make sure their guests had a good time.

One thing I remember from their engagement shoot is that they both have these infectious smiles, but they got even bigger on their wedding day. It was impossible not to walk around with a big grin on my face, which is probably why I wasn’t bothered much when my pants got caught on a sharp rock and ripped in the middle of their portraits. I will now always pack an extra pair of pants, but thanks to a large roll of gaphers tape they were quickly repaired – just less stylish than they originally were. We spent about 60 minutes at the beach and on the way back Amanda had talked about an old barn by her house that she thought would be cool for photos. Although we were tight on time I couldn’t resist the great light from the setting sun and asked if we could make that quick stop. I was really happy we did.

If you or anyone you know is planning a backyard wedding you might find some of what Amanda and Lon did helpful.

First of all they were fortunate to have the use of two gorgeous properties, one for the ceremony and one where they setup a lovely white tent that always makes taking photos a delight. Tents also obviously good for a backup plan if it decides to rain. At the reception they set up numerous cozy little places for guests to visit. These included a campfire with full access to all the delicious ingredients needed to make s’mores, two propane heat lamps with areas for sitting and visiting, a photo booth and of course the tables in the tent under a gorgeous chandelier. Other than the quant feeling you would have never known it was in Amanda’s families backyard with all the hard work they did decorating.

Thanks for the wonderful day Lon and Amanda!
